Northern Circuit 9-Day Kilimanjaro Climb
Full Mountain Circumnavigation - Highest success rate at 95%
Tour Overview
The Northern Circuit is the longest, newest, and most comprehensive route on Mount Kilimanjaro. This premium 9-day trek nearly circumnavigates the entire mountain, providing unparalleled 360-degree views and the opportunity to experience Kilimanjaro from every angle. Starting on the Lemosho Route, it traverses the Shira Plateau before veering north to circle the quieter northern slopes and approaching the summit from the east.
With an exceptional 95% success rate - the highest of all routes - the Northern Circuit offers the best possible chance of reaching Uhuru Peak. The extended time on the mountain allows optimal acclimatization, dramatically reducing altitude sickness risk. The route sees the least traffic of any established path, particularly on the remote northern section, providing the ultimate wilderness experience.
The scenery is spectacular and incredibly varied: pristine western rainforest, expansive Shira Plateau, dramatic Lava Tower, the remote and rarely-visited northern slopes, jagged Mawenzi Peak views, and finally the glaciated summit. The extended itinerary allows comfortable pacing with excellent rest and acclimatization.
This route is perfect for those with adequate time and budget who want to maximize summit chances while experiencing the most comprehensive Kilimanjaro journey. While more expensive due to 9-day duration, the Northern Circuit offers the highest success rate, most dramatic scenery variety, lowest traffic, and most thorough mountain experience - ideal for photographers, solitude seekers, and climbers wanting optimal summit conditions.

Still demanding - steep switchbacks, freezing temperatures, thin air. Progress slow and methodical with frequent rest. Reaching Gilman's Point (5,681m) around sunrise incredible achievement. Final section continues along crater rim past remaining glaciers to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) - Roof of Africa, continent's highest point! Summit photos and celebration, then long descent to School Hut for rest and lunch. Continue descending to Mweka Camp through multiple ecological zones. Forest beautiful with moss-covered trees, ferns, flowers, bird songs and monkeys. Notice energy and strength returning with altitude loss. Trail can be slippery - take care on descent. At Mweka Gate, complete park formalities and receive official summit certificate - green for Stella/Gilman's Point, gold for Uhuru Peak.
