About Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda's most visited and diverse safari destination, covering 1,978 square kilometers in the western Rift Valley. Named after Queen Elizabeth II following her 1954 visit, the park showcases remarkable biodiversity with 95 mammal species and over 600 bird species - more than any other African national park - creating exceptional wildlife viewing across varied habitats.

The park is world-famous for its tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector, a behavior observed in only two locations globally. The Kazinga Channel, a 32-kilometer natural waterway connecting Lakes Edward and George, offers spectacular boat safaris featuring the world's highest concentration of hippos, enormous Nile crocodiles, elephants bathing on shores, and prolific birdlife including African fish eagles and malachite kingfishers.

The park's diverse ecosystems range from savanna grasslands and wetlands to crater lakes and lowland forests. The dramatic volcanic crater lakes dotting the landscape create stunning vistas, while the Kyambura Gorge harbors habituated chimpanzees. Whether cruising the Kazinga Channel at sunset, searching for tree-climbing lions in ancient fig trees, or tracking chimpanzees through forested gorges, Queen Elizabeth delivers Uganda's most comprehensive safari experience combining classic savanna game viewing with unique experiences.
