About Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is Uganda's premier wildlife destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protecting approximately half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population. Covering 331 square kilometers of ancient montane and lowland forest in southwestern Uganda, Bwindi offers one of the most profound wildlife experiences on Earth - tracking and spending an hour with habituated gorilla families.

The park shelters over 459 mountain gorillas across more than 20 habituated family groups available for tourism, providing the highest success rate for gorilla encounters globally. Beyond gorillas, the park's remarkable biodiversity includes 120 mammal species, 350 bird species (including 23 Albertine Rift endemics), 200 butterfly species, and 163 tree species. The dense, impenetrable forest ecosystem is one of Africa's most ancient and biologically diverse.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is challenging but extraordinarily rewarding, with treks ranging from 2-8 hours through steep, muddy terrain. The moment you encounter a family of gentle giants - watching silverbacks, playful juveniles, and caring mothers - creates an unforgettable connection. The park also offers the unique gorilla habituation experience, spending four hours with gorillas being habituated. Whether for the iconic gorilla encounter or exploring one of Africa's richest forests, Bwindi delivers transformative wilderness experiences.
