Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park is Tanzania's fourth-largest national park, covering 3,230 square kilometers of the Mkata River floodplain and surrounding mountain ranges. Often called a "mini-Serengeti," the park's open horizons and abundant wildlife make it the most accessible southern circuit destination, located just 283km from Dar es Salaam.

The park is bordered by the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast and shares its southern boundary with Nyerere National Park, creating a vital wildlife corridor. The Mkata Floodplain dominates the landscape, hosting large herds of buffalos, elephants, zebras, and wildebeests alongside healthy populations of lions, leopards, and wild dogs. Mikumi is particularly known for its approachable wildlife and excellent photo opportunities.
